A compact airfreight shipment containing 200 metres of WIKUS bandsaw blade steel has arrived at our Auckland factory.
The shipment consists of three surprisingly slim packages:
- Two 50-metre coils of WIKUS FUTURA SN TCT blade steel in 34mm × 1.10mm, 3–4 TPI
- One 100-metre coil of WIKUS PRIMAR M42 bi-metal blade steel in 20mm × 0.90mm, 18 TPI
Although the packages are compact, the blade steel inside represents considerable value.
At our standard published metre rate of $169, the 100 metres of FUTURA SN TCT represents $16,900 in finished blade-length value. The 100 metres of PRIMAR M42 bi-metal adds another $2,890 at its current $28.90-per-metre retail rate.
Together, this small shipment has a total retail metre value of $19,790.
Replenishing stock as demand changes
The 20mm × 0.90mm, 18 TPI bi-metal is a less-common blade specification that we already carry. Recent demand for it has increased, so we used this shipment to replenish our stock.
The order was compact enough to bring in by air and important enough not to leave until our next large sea shipment.
Investing in dependable local supply
Carrying a comprehensive range of premium bandsaw blade steel requires a substantial ongoing investment. However, having the material available in Auckland allows us to manufacture blades as they are required, including unusual specifications and urgent replacements.
It also reduces the risk of a customer having to wait months for blade steel to arrive from overseas before we can manufacture the blade they need.
Once unpacked, this WIKUS coil stock will join our existing range and be cut to length, welded, finished and checked at our Auckland factory.
