About Woodmill and Portable Sawmill Bandsaw Blades

Woodmill, PortaMill and sawmill bandsaw blades are essentially the same type of blade. They are designed for use on band sawmills, whether portable mills or larger stationary sawmills. The terms are often used interchangeably in the industry.

United Products stocks a wide range of portable sawmill bandsaw blades for timber milling, commonly used throughout New Zealand.

Blades are supplied ready to fit common portable mills including Wood-Mizer LT series mills, Norwood LumberMate mills and Woodland Mills HM series sawmills.

Portable sawmills from manufacturers such as Wood-Mizer, Norwood, Woodland Mills, Logosol and PortaMill use similar narrow bandsaw blades designed for cutting logs efficiently.

If you are unsure which blade width, thickness or tooth pitch your sawmill requires, we can help recommend the correct blade for your machine and the timber you are milling.

Blade Width

Portable sawmill blades are available in various widths, typically ranging from 25 mm (1″) to 50 mm (2″).
A wider blade generally produces a straighter cut, while narrower blades can be useful on smaller mills.

Tooth Pitch (TPI)

Woodmill and sawmill blades use very coarse tooth pitches designed for cutting green timber and logs.

Common pitches include:

1 TPI
1.14 TPI (7/8″ or 22 mm pitch – distance between teeth)
1.3 TPI (3/4″ or 19 mm pitch – distance between teeth)

The correct pitch depends on the timber type and cutting conditions.

Blade Thickness

Blade thickness is typically around:

.042″
.045″

Thickness affects blade stiffness, durability and cutting performance.

Blade Materials

Portable sawmill blades are commonly manufactured from:

Carbon Steel – the most common choice for timber milling.

Bi-Metal – features a hardened tooth edge for increased wear resistance and longer blade life in demanding applications.

United Products supplies blades manufactured by trusted brands including Woodmax, Wood-Mizer compatible blades, Hakansson and Morse.

Tungsten Carbide Tipped Blades

We also supply TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tipped) wood cutting blades, designed for longer cutting life in high-volume milling applications.
