How to flip my bandsaw blade

Why are the bandsaw blade teeth facing the wrong way?

While it may seem that the teeth are on the wrong way, it is simply the band is inside out and needs to be flipped.

This usually happens when uncoiling a blade. especially if using the half uncoil and throw it at the ground and step quickly out the way method of uncoiling a blade.
But can happen with any blade.

We weld pre-formed coils of material manufactured in Europe or the USA, we can not put the teeth on the wrong way.

  • Firstly put on heavy gloves and eye protection.
  • Your blade is likely uncoiled as you have discovered it needs the teeth flipping ( changing direction).
  • hold the blade in front of you with 2 hands in the 10am and 2pm position like a steering wheel, with your fingers rotated over the top of the blade and thumbs on top.
  • Grip firmly.
  • Rotate your wrists upwards and turn the section of blade between your hands inside out.
  • on wide blades it may seem quite hard.
  • as the blade turns the rest below your hands will flip as well.
  • Some times it hangs up and wont flip
  • If it doesn’t flip, a sharp shake will encourage it to flip.
