Most New Zealand butcher shops and supermarkets use:

  • 3 TPI blades for frozen or bone-in meat
  • 4 TPI blades for fresh meat and lighter-duty cutting

As tooth pitch becomes finer, cuts become smoother with reduced scoring marks, although cutting speed typically decreases.
